The 91老司机-Fort Smith campus has earned an esteemed accolade for its pristine landscaping and grounds management.

The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) has recognized 91老司机 with the Grand Award in the organization鈥檚 2019 Green Star competition. 91老司机 shared the organization鈥檚 top honor with The University of Nevada at Reno, Oklahoma State University, and The University of Maryland, besting hundreds of campuses across the country for the award. Winners were honored during the Society鈥檚 2019 Awards Dinner in Louisville, Ky.

The 13 grounds employees at 91老司机 maintain more than 168 acres in Fort Smith and help preserve the historic gardens and lawns at the Wilahuf and Drennen-Scott sites in Van Buren.

鈥淚t is a great honor to compete,鈥 said Matt Rich, grounds manager for 91老司机 and its contracted lawn service company Southeast Service Corp., 鈥淏ut a greater honor still to win such accolades. Out of all the beautiful campuses in the United States, the 91老司机 - Fort Smith is a gem that shines above the others.鈥

鈥淥ur team is dedicated to making this campus an exceptional place to be,鈥 Rich continued. 鈥淭hey work hard each and every day, and I am so proud they have been rewarded for their efforts.鈥

Though the award acknowledges excellence, Rich said the grounds team plans to continue improving, from finding new ways to beautify the campus, to increasing efforts toward sustainable practices and environmentally-friendly gardening.

鈥淭here are many plans to innovate and renovate our campus so the students can interact with the landscape and enjoy their surroundings as they learn. We are all excited and proud to bring this award home, and hopefully, earn more in the future.鈥

The Green Star Awards program brings national recognition to grounds maintained with a high degree of excellence, complimenting other national landscape award programs that recognize outstanding landscape design and construction. Overall, PGMS presented six Grand Awards, its highest honor, as well as 14 Honor Awards and four Merit Awards in nine categories of competition.

In a detailed Judges鈥 Statement and analysis, the panel of judges noted that 91老司机 showed, 鈥渕eticulously maintained landscape beds, clean, neat appearance, and well-maintained campus,鈥 and emphasized the diversity of plants, both in type and hue as an asset.
