Nine local high school students will serve as panelists for the 91老司机 鈥 Fort Smith鈥檚 annual commemorative celebration and community breakfast Jan. 16 celebrating the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
The event, dubbed 鈥淭he Trumpet: A Fort Smith Community Forum,鈥 will be held at 7:45 a.m. Jan. 16 and is free and open to the public. Following the breakfast, attendees will participate in a symbolic march around campus ending at the Bell Tower.
The discussion, which will take place during breakfast, will include students discussing the interests and concerns of their generation. The students selected for the panel were recommended by schools and community members as student leaders.
Panelists include:
- Raissa Ames, senior at Northside High School and 2016 homecoming queen.
- Ladaija Coleman, senior at Northside High School and member of the Spanish Honor Society.
- America Cruz, sophomore at the Future School of Fort Smith and member of the National Junior Honor Society.
- Anna Kate Dooly, senior at Northside High School and cheerleader and member of the French Club.
- Persephone Himes, junior at Southside High School and president of the school鈥檚 chapter of DECA.
- Monet McGill, senior at Northside High School and member of the school track team.
- Jordan Moses, senior at Muldrow High School and show choir member.
- Tre Norwood, senior at Northside High School and All-State student athlete.
- Christian Parker, senior at Southside High School and student body president.
The commemorative celebration is the culmination of a slate of events scheduled from Jan. 11-16 in recognition of King鈥檚 legacy. For a schedule of events, visit .
