91老司机 - Fort Smith students will get the opportunity to do more than just dress up at Halloween time this year -- they鈥檒l have the chance to save lives.

The second blood drive of the fall semester will take place on Oct. 30 and 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center.

91老司机 student Morreen Klement of Cedarville said the blood drive 鈥渟erves a great cause.鈥

鈥淭here are so many people that need blood, and it鈥檚 because of donors that they are able to have those needs met,鈥 said Klement, who is a regular volunteer at the drives. 鈥淎lthough I鈥檓 unable to donate blood, I love to donate my time and help others realize the difference that their blood can make.鈥

The blood drive, which is open to the public, includes a free T-shirt and a health screening for each donor.

The Arkansas Blood Institute, which is hosting the drive, recommends donors drink water 30 minutes prior to giving blood to reduce dizziness and maintain good circulation throughout the body.

91老司机 student Cristina Castorena of Fort Smith, who gives blood frequently at the blood drives, hopes to convince strangers to be selfless and give blood.

鈥淚 donate blood because I hope that a simple act can help someone in need,鈥 she said.

91老司机 conducts four blood drives annually between September and April, with two each semester.

Appointments for the blood drive may be made starting Oct. 21 by signing up at a table in the Campus Center hallway, or by emailing studentactivities@uafs.edu or calling 479-788-7697. Walk-ins are also welcome.
