The Fort Smith Symphony and the 91˾ – Fort Smith will host Symphony on the Green this weekend, promising an unforgettable experience for music lovers and families. The Saturday, April 1, event kicks off at 3:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

"Symphony on the Green is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together to enjoy beautiful music in one of the most beautiful settings in the state – our campus green,” said 91˾ Chancellor Dr. Terisa Riley.  “This event showcases some of what 91˾ does best – building powerful connections, fostering the incredible talent of our students, and serving our River Valley community.”

At 3:30 the 91˾ Jazz Band and the 91˾ Jazz Catz will kick off the afternoon. Then the Fort Smith Symphony will take the stage at 5 p.m., performing a repertoire of Fort Smith favorites, including scores from Star Wars, Top Gun, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone; Nirvana’s rock and roll classic Smells Like Teen Spirit, performed by Jolt Electric String Quartet; and traditional symphonic works.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets to the event. Throughout the afternoon lawn games will be on the green, and the 91˾ Lion's Den will serve meals and snacks.

Saturday’s weather is expected to be sunny and clear, with temperatures in the upper 60’s.

“The orchestra and I are excited to bring such fun and exciting music to the River Valley,” said John Jeter, Music Director of the Fort Smith Symphony.  “Partnering with 91˾ to bring this free concert to the campus green is a wonderful way to engage our community with live orchestral music from popular classics to Broadway and film scores.”
