91老司机 Student Research Symposium Winners Announced

On April 7, 2023, nearly 100 91老司机 鈥� Fort Smith students presented
various research projects at the 16th Annual Student Research Symposium. Of the individuals
and teams who presented, 15 were recently announced as the best research presentations.
The symposium featured oral and poster presentations judged and shared among fellow
91老司机 students. Several areas of study were represented, including biology, business,
chemistry, computer science, dental hygiene, electronics, engineering, geoscience,
marketing, mathematics, media communications, psychology, and more.
Monetary awards were given to 31 students composed of team and individual presentations
selected by the judges.
The winners are:
鈥淎utonomous Vehicle Challenge鈥�
Presented by the team of Daniel Balmaceda and Julia Thai of Fort Smith, Chaarlee Hickman
of Mountainburg, and Cody Merrell and Devin Yocum of Van Buren. The team鈥檚 faculty
sponsor was Dr. Kevin Lewelling.
鈥淐an You Hear Me: An Overview of the Risk of Hearing Loss for the Dental Profession鈥�
Presented by the team of Kevin Villeda of De Queen, Jacob Marin and Alissa Wagner
of Fort Smith, and Kenzie Gonzales of Greenwood. The team鈥檚 faculty sponsor was Roxy
Reed.
鈥淐itizen Science: Role of iNaturalist in Biodiversity Documentation and Education
in Arkansas鈥�
Presented by Kelsie Baker of Ozark, through the support of faculty sponsor Dr. Ragupathy
Kannan.
鈥淐ross-Cultural Color Theory鈥�
Presented by Matti Youngblood of Fort Smith, through the support of faculty sponsor
Dr. Lynda McClellan.
鈥淒etermining the Impact of a Flocculant or Surfactant on Microplastic Recovery鈥�
Presented by the team of Jon Turco of Fort Smith and Matthew Neal of Van Buren. The
team鈥檚 faculty sponsors were Dr. Maurice Testa and Dr. Jordan Mader.
鈥淓xpression Level, Codon Composition, and Mutation Rate鈥�
Presented by the team of Anabelle Bruning of Fort Smith, Austyn Russell of Gravette,
and Karen Garduza of Nashville. The team鈥檚 faculty sponsor was Dr. David McClellan.
鈥淔ake Review Identification Using Deep Learning鈥�
Presented by the team of Coby Mizell of Barling, Tahlia Bergeron of Fayetteville,
and Carter Freeze of Fort Smith. The team鈥檚 faculty sponsors were Andrew Mackey and
Israel Cuevas.
鈥淕rant Grabbers for Community Park鈥�
Presented by the team of Anthony Tramonte of Elkins, Tara McKinney of Fort Smith,
and Connor Ware of Rogers. The team鈥檚 faculty sponsor was Dr. Kristin Tardif.

Presented by Avreigh Watson of Rogers, through the support of faculty sponsor Dr.
Laura Witherington.

Presented by Korina Lopez of Elkins, through the support of faculty sponsor Tom Wing.
